Our retreats encompass all aspects of trauma resolution, including education, somatic movement, art, dance, anger expression, and so much more. Each participant receives an individualized workbook tailored to their specific trauma resolution needs.
What is an intensive retreat?
An intensive retreat is designed to provide a safe space for a deeper experience of trauma resolution. Although there are opportunities for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation, the focus is creating space for opportunities for deeper vulnerability and emotional expression. Each of our retreat participants receives a personalized workbook created from conversations about their trauma history. The retreat is then tailored to their needs, and through different exercises, there are opportunities for emotional expression, somatic release, processing and discussion, and potential trauma resolution.
I Am Safe to Play
People impacted by trauma are constantly assessing their safety. We have little opportunity to be vulnerable enough to feel safe exploring creativity, joy, and play. In addition, due to the trauma responses we develop to survive, many of us feel disconnected from-or even hateful towards-our inner child. These are all understandable reactions to our experiences. Throughout the healing process, we can connect to our fun and playful sides to allow our inner children opportunities to reclaim their power and experience joy Research has shown that incorporating play into our lives can help alleviate some of the lasting impacts of trauma. It is vital to recognize that play is essential for children and adults.
With this in mind, One Planet Healing has initiated the I AM SAFE TO PLAY© campaign to offer opportunities to play and connect with others on this playful journey of rediscovery! Play manifests differently for everyone. One Planet Healing provides a wide variety of tools for artistic expression during each intensive. Some people enjoy simpler activities, like coloring in a coloring book or drawing from a photograph, while others like to do more complex projects, like painting rocks or doing collage.
I am Safe to Play Inner Child Rocks: These are beautifully hand-painted. I AM SAFE TO PLAY rocks. They can be used to connect to your inner child, as a reminder to play, as decoration, or in meditation, or take them on an inner child playdate!
I am Safe to Play Inner Child Play Date: Set aside a specific time to allow your inner child to come out to play! Spend some time at the park, on a swing, hula hooping, skipping, coloring, or gazing at the sky. Just remember to release all judgment and just be the child you were never allowed to be.
Collage for Emotional Freedom
Art has been an essential part of personal growth, wellness, and trauma resolution for decades. Harnessing creativity for healing can be a powerful conduit for expressing emotional experiences that might be too difficult to access otherwise. Often, our defenses are too high to be vulnerable enough to process our trauma, so art can allow vulnerability to feel safer. However, many people may feel unable to be creative, don’t connect to art, or feel they lack the skills to be artists, which is why collage is so healing. Anyone can put images together!
According to Robbins (as cited in Gussak & Rosal, 2016), “collage parallels the mourning and healing process as it is a process of construction, reconstruction, and rehabilitation” (p. 167).
Anger Expression
Anyone who has experienced complex trauma has justified anger, perhaps even rage. When our childhoods require us to stifle our feelings to remain safe, we must try to disconnect from our feelings to survive. Allowing oneself to become vulnerable enough to access the unprocessed anger resulting from unresolved trauma can feel very frightening. Once we connect to our anger, we can often feel it as physical sensations in our bodies, memories, and feelings of being out of control. However, when we access our anger with intention, we can express it in ways that feel cathartic and healing.
It is important to note that expressing anger in a life-serving and constructive way is crucial. There are many ways to intentionally express emotions with respect and consideration for others, without causing harm.
